Work Experience
Head of Engineering, Siraj Consulting Engineers- 1999-2003, 2006/ 2007
SIRAJ is an international company working in Nigeria since 1998 in the Oil and Gas Sector, and in the fields of Road Construction, Piling, Water Distribution, Building, and Consultancy. The Group has reached an annual turnover of around $30 Million and a total workforce of more than 200 employees. While with Siraj, I have implemented several GIS and Remote Sensing applications and developed complex GIS databases for various projects. I worked extensively on remote sensing and image classification projects in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameron, and U.K. Project coordinator of the following projects: by Siraj Consulting Engineers:
roads | GIS | remote sensing related projects:
Regional Development Plan for the Riverine Area of Delta State: The consortium composed of GIS/Transport and SIRAJ Nig. Ltd. has completed a Regional Development Plan for the Riverine area of Delta State. These areas were first examined in terms of their economical drivers, population, natural resources, and their entire existing infrastructure. A comprehensive survey of the current status and conditions of these areas was conducted. It was followed by an analysis of the pathway that these areas need to follow in order to reach the desired level of development. A detailed action plan was finally devised for the implementation of the recommendations and the development of the region. Landsat Satellite Images and aerial photography were used for the development of the various databases needed in this project. The project also involved digitization of existing 1:50,000 maps, updating them using Landsat satellite imagery and building a GIS database that was used by the group to develop a regional master plan for the area (2001-2011) My role was heading a GIS/Surveying team.
Rehabilitation of Sokoto-Goroyo Dam Site Road in Sokoto State of Nigeria:1999/2002:Conducted site survey and prepared the necessary horizontal and vertical alignments for the road. Cross sectional drawings were taken at every 25 meters of the road, which is 90 km long. The work also included the design of the road culverts and the preparation of the Bill of Quantities. This project included also the full engineering design and supervision of four bridges of total length of 320 meters.

Rehabilitation of Gombe-Biu Road (Design and Supervision) 2000/2001, client: Federal Ministry of Works and Housing: Conducted site survey and prepared the necessary horizontal and vertical alignment engineering drawings for the road, which is 126 km long. The work also included the design of the road culverts and the preparation of the Bill of Quantities. As A field engineer: Designed and oversaw construction of site road and associated ditches; Provided site works and building survey layout; Prepared daily and monthly construction progress reports; Developed as-built site plan; Involved in sequencing and scheduling of construction tasks.
Development of GIS Base, coverage with 1m Resolution Satellite Imagery, supervision and Design of the Dualisation of Aba Ikot Ekpene Road:.This project involves the full design of the 40km road between Abia and Akwa Ibom states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In addition to the typical engineering design of plans, profiles, and bridge details for the two bridges, the scope of work of this project involves an environmental impact assessment, feasibility / economic viability study, aerial survey, soil investigations, and preparation of BOQ and tender documents.
Orthorectification of KVR-1000 Russian Satellite Imagery and Development of DTM for the Whole of Western Nigeria: Landsat satellite imagery was acquired for the whole of western Nigeria (approximately 230,400 km2) and orthorectified for Development and Reconstruction. DTM was produced covering the whole of western Nigeria using the Landsat satellite stereo-pairs.
Monitoring of Drought and Desertification for Nigeria: Landsat 7 images and PCI software are used to generate maps depicting the boundary and the progression of desert in the North of Nigeria. This job includes the classification of data into 9 classes to delineate the desert frontier and its movement.
Mapping for the Interstate boundaries of Nigeria: SIRAJ has undertaken a pilot project for mapping the State boundaries of Nigeria. This project will be the first step towards a nation wide reproduction of the Nigerian Interstate Boundaries. High-resolution satellite imageries are used for conducting this study all along with ground GPS readings. My major role was heading a team in the collation and analysis of data.
Integrated Waste Management Plan and Design for the city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria: SIRAJ has already been awarded the Integrated Waste Management Plan and Design from the Federal Ministry of Environment. This job includes all the stages of an integrated waste management plan starting from population and generation surveys and reaching final and detailed design drawings. SIRAJ has formed a consortium of three companies (SIRAJ Nigeria Limited, Dames & Moore, and GIS/Transport) to complete this job. Landsat-7 and IKONOS Images are used for the development of various databases.
Updating of 1:50,000 Topographic Maps of Delta State, Nigeria: Existing topographic maps of Delta State were first digitized. Satellite images for the area were acquired and orthorectified. Old topographic maps are updated by superimposing them on top of orthoimages and digitizing new features.
Dualization of Onitsha – Owerri Road, Nigeria, 2003 – 2007: (Awarder By: Federal Ministry of Works, Nigeria. Contractor: CCC, Total Contract Sum: $180Million)Responsible for project coordination and technical supervision of this project involving an 82 km road with 2 lanes per direction, 2 bridges, an 8 km by-pass, and 3 flyovers. The scope of work includes aerial survey, geometric design, and supervision of the project serving the Onitsha market which is considered as the largest trade market in West Africa.
